Polynesian Cultural Center

Playing tourist this Saturday, we decided to take a nice drive to the Polynesian Cultural Center in La`ie, Hawaii. We took our kids to the PCC this year for their Pacific Island Studies semester in social studies. That was NOTHING compared to the tour we took yesterday! The villages opened at noon and dinner was at 5pm. 5 hours of village exploring was enough to validate my overindulgence during the dinner. It was H-O-T and humid. We are thinking that next weekend we will visit Kualoa Ranch! Stay tuned for that post!

Although actually in Melanesia, the Polynesian Cultural Center features Fiji because their culture is similar to the Polynesians. (Not looking at the very nicely sculpted and shirtless gentlemen demonstrating the ancient dance of these islands).

Tahiti's traditional rhythmic hip-swinging dance is, unfortunately, commonly associated with the term "Hula Girl." (Still not looking...)

Definitely NOOOOOOT looking... eh hum!

The best "seat" in the house is on top of dad's shoulders!

Let's go paddling in an ancient vessel! We almost had a heart attack when he tried to climb in it.

Mmmm! Strawberry smoothie in a pineapple! Yummy!

I'm in utter shock that my son has already eaten 2 WHOLE taro dinner rolls!

Neither of us are very good at the poi balls... The whole lack of hand-eye coordination is unfortunately genetic... poor kid!

"Bula Vinaka!"

Listening intently to ensure minimal embarrassment.
